Step 1: Create your account

Go to myclerkbook.com/accounts/sign-up and create an account using your email, Google, or a username and password. After signing up, you’ll be taken through a short 5-step onboarding flow.

Step 2: Choose a plan

On the Plan Selection step, you’ll see:
  • Basic ($5/month) — 100 transactions/month, 1 dashboard, 10 AI parses/day
  • Premium ($10/month, 7-day free trial) — unlimited transactions, 5 dashboards, 100 AI parses/day, currency conversion, SMS/WhatsApp alerts
The free trial requires no credit card. You can upgrade or cancel at any time.
If you’re a freelancer managing multiple clients or projects, Premium’s multi-dashboard support is the feature that matters most.

Step 3: Create your first dashboard

Give your dashboard a name (e.g. “Personal”, “Client Work”, “Business”) and select a base currency. This is the currency all transactions and totals will be displayed in. After creating the dashboard, you’ll be guided to add one income transaction and one expense transaction as a quick tutorial.

Step 4: Add your first real transaction

There are three ways to add transactions:
Click the + button or press N from any screen. Fill in:
  • Amount and currency
  • Vendor or source name — start typing a known vendor (e.g. “Adobe”, “Netflix”) and autocomplete will suggest the amount, group, and interval from your history or the built-in vendor catalogue
  • Date — defaults to today
  • Type — Income, Expense, or Trial
  • Group — assign to one or more categories
  • Recurring — toggle on to set weekly, monthly, yearly, or custom intervals
Click Save. Your dashboard updates immediately.
Click Upload in the sidebar (or press U). Drag and drop a receipt, invoice, PDF, or image.Claude Haiku 4.5 extracts the transaction details and pre-fills the form. Fields with low confidence are highlighted — review and correct before saving.Supported formats: JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, TIFF, HEIC, PDF, DOC, DOCX, TXT, CSV. Maximum size: 10MB.
Before the document content reaches Claude, our sanitizeForAI() function strips all personally identifiable information. Claude never receives your name, email, or account numbers.
Any transaction can be marked as recurring when you create it. Set the interval (weekly, monthly, yearly, or a custom number of days) and myClerkBook tracks the next due date automatically. You’ll receive email notifications 3 days and 1 day before each recurring expense is due.

Step 5: Explore your dashboard

Your dashboard has two sections: Financial Overview — total income, total expenses, net balance, and expense-to-income ratio for the selected period. Use the period selector to view Today, This Week, This Month, This Quarter, This Year, or a custom date range. Widget Grid — drag-and-drop widgets showing your data as charts and lists. Six widget types are available at launch: Income Chart, Expense Chart, Net Balance Chart, Category Breakdown, Recent Transactions, and Upcoming Expenses.
