A book is a whole financial environment rather than a filter on one big list. Premium holds up to five of them, so client work, a side project and your personal money each get their own, and none of them can see the others. The reason is how you actually think. You do not hold one set of finances with labels applied to it. You hold “my Client A work” and “my personal money”, and a single list, however well filtered, makes you carry both at once.

What stays separate

Everything. There is no shared layer underneath.

Its own entries and groups

A group called Software in one book has no relationship to a group of the same name in another.

Its own base currency

Chosen per book from all 166 supported currencies.

Its own widgets

A dashboard arranged for a client is not the arrangement you want for your own money.

Its own alerts

An overdue income reminder chases the client whose book it sits in.
Each book also holds its own name, description and short slug, and, when the myClerkBook Agent arrives in the phase after the web launch, its own set of agent permissions.

Switching between them

The switcher sits in the top navigation and lists each book with its name, its currency and when you were last in it. Switching is one click, with no reload, and every figure and panel on the screen changes to the book you moved to. You land where you left off. Signing in takes you to the book you used last, rather than to a chooser. Each book carries its own colour or icon in the switcher, which is what keeps the list readable once you are running four or five.

Creating and managing them

Your first book is made during setup

Onboarding asks you to name it, give it a slug and pick the currency you think in.

Add the rest from the switcher

New book, name, slug, currency, and you are in it, with nothing carried over from the book you were in.

Rename, archive or delete in its settings

Each book’s own settings screen holds its name, slug, currency, and the archive and delete actions.

Basic and Premium

Several of the limits above are per book rather than per account, which is what makes the fifth book worth as much as the second. Ten groups on Basic is ten groups; on Premium it is unlimited, in each of five separate books. Basic holds exactly one book, and the switcher is not part of the Basic interface.
