# Web app

> myClerkBook runs in a browser and installs to a home screen from it, with nothing to download and no store account.

myClerkBook is a web app, and the browser is where it runs: everything the
product can do, it does here.

It is also installable. The browser can put it on your home screen, in your
dock or in your Start menu, where it opens in its own window without an address
bar and behaves like any other app on the device.

## Installing it

There is no download, no installer and no store account. The browser you are
already signed in with does the whole thing.

    Go to [myclerkbook.com](https://myclerkbook.com) and sign in. Install from
    a signed-in session so the installed app opens where you left off.

    Chrome and Edge show an **install** control at the right-hand end of the
    address bar. Choose it, then confirm. The app is added to your dock or
    Start menu.

    In Safari, open the **Share** menu and choose **Add to Home Screen**.

    In Chrome, open the browser menu and choose **Install app**, which some
    versions label **Add to Home Screen**.

  Installing changes where myClerkBook opens from, and nothing else. It is the
  same app, the same account and the same books. Uninstalling it removes the
  icon, never your data.

## What you get once it is installed

* **Its own window and its own icon.** No tabs, no address bar, and a place in
  the app switcher alongside everything else on the device.
* **An app shell that tolerates a bad connection.** The shell loads without a
  connection so you are not looking at a browser error. Your figures still need
  one, because they are read from your account rather than kept on the device.
* **No separate sign-in.** You are signed in as the same person, on the same
  plan, with the same books.

## On a phone and on a monitor

The same app is built to be used from a 375px phone screen up past 1440px on a
desktop monitor. Nothing is removed on a small screen. The arrangement changes
and things sit one tap away rather than side by side.

## Staying up to date

There is nothing to update. The app is served from the web, so a reload gets
you the current version, with no store review and no installer between a fix
and you.
