# Managing your subscription

> Where your subscription lives, who processes payments, and how to cancel.

Your plan, its status and any trial end date are shown on your
[billing page](https://myclerkbook.com/app/settings/billing).

## Who processes your payments

Payments are handled by **Polar**, which acts as the merchant of record.
myClerkBook never sees or stores your card details. They are entered directly
into Polar's payment form, which is why the checkout window is theirs rather
than ours.

<Note>
  This is why your card statement shows Polar rather than myClerkBook, and why
  receipts arrive from Polar's system.
</Note>

## What the billing page shows

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Your current plan" icon="id-card">
    Basic or Premium, read from your account rather than assumed.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Subscription status" icon="circle-info">
    Active, on trial, cancelling, overdue or ended.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Trial end date" icon="calendar">
    Shown for as long as a trial is running.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Agent add-on" icon="robot">
    Marked active when you hold it.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## Cancelling

Cancellation is handled through Polar, and the link to it reaches you with
every receipt. Cancelling stops the next renewal. It does not end the period
you have already paid for, and it does not delete anything.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Cancel the subscription">
    Your plan continues to the end of the current period.
  </Step>

  <Step title="The period ends">
    Your account moves to Basic. Every record you have created stays.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Nothing is deleted">
    Closing your account is a separate, explicit action. See
    [Data retention and deletion](/privacy-and-security/data-retention-and-deletion).
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  **Cancelling a subscription and closing an account are different things.**
  Cancelling stops billing and leaves your data intact. Closing your account
  deletes it permanently. Neither one triggers the other.
</Warning>

## If something looks wrong

Your billing page is the authority on what plan you hold. If it disagrees with
what you expect, after a payment, a cancellation, or a plan change that seems
not to have applied, give it a moment and reload: a completed payment reaches
your account a few seconds after Polar confirms it.

If it still looks wrong, [email us](mailto:help@myclerkbook.com) with the date
and the plan you expected.
